Jurgen Klopp criticizes the atmosphere before Arsenal visits, as Liverpool defeats West Ham 5-1.
For Saturday's Premier League matchup between leaders Arsenal and Liverpool, manager Jurgen Klopp of Liverpool has advised any supporters who are "not in the right shape" to relinquish their ticket to a different person.
A point behind the Gunners, Klopp criticized the Anfield crowd after his team defeated West Ham 5-1 in the Carabao Cup quarterfinal on Wednesday.
The Reds stormed to their season-long joint-biggest victory, securing a two-leg matchup with Fulham in the round of four.
However, even though his team scored goals through Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo, and twice from Curtis Jones, Klopp thought the energy in the stadium was lacking.
That was despite the fact that, with the opening of the upper deck of the Anfield Road Stand, it was just the second occasion that 57,000 people had attended.
"The atmosphere was the worst I've ever seen at Anfield," TV analyst Gary Neville claimed following Sunday's goalless draw with Manchester United.
"I've always thought well of Liverpool supporters. Although this is the largest crowd they've had in 60 or 70 years, it's also the quietest for this particular game.
And following the victory over West Ham, Klopp remained unflattering.
"I enquired, 'What do they want?'" We made a lot of changes, dominated West Ham miserably, and let opportunities slip away. I would be 100% alert if I were in the stands.
"I don't know if the Man United game was that bad that we have to say sorry we didn't smash them?"
Liverpool will play an Arsenal team that hasn't played in six days following their 2-0 victory over Brighton on Saturday.
The Gunners are currently leading the Premier League, but Sheffield United's defeat on Friday by Aston Villa could take the lead.
